Preparation for Surgery

Pre-Surgical Instructions

  • No food/water after midnight the night before surgery
  • No food/water the morning of surgery
  • Arrive for admission 7:45am – 8:15am

Admission

Allow time for check-in with a Veterinary Technician.  This will give you an opportunity to ask questions or discuss any concerns you might have before signing the surgical consent form.  The technicians will be happy to answer any questions that you have.  Please note that the consent form must be completed and signed by someone over 18 years of age.
If a morning drop-off does not work for you, you can admit your pet the night before surgery (with prior arrangements). There is no additional charge for boarding the night before surgery.  Your pet would need to be admitted (Monday – Friday) before 5:30 pm the night before surgery.  This allows us time to get your pet settled before we leave for the evening.

Dismissal

After your pet is in recovery after surgery, a Veterinary Technician will call to update you on your pet’s condition. During that time, they will schedule a 15-minute dismissal appointment between 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The dismissal appointment is important because we want to make sure you are comfortable taking care of your pet post-surgery. The Veterinary Technician will be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you have, explain the home care instructions, and instruct you on medication schedules.
